What’s a racing game without vehicles? It’s Micro Maniacs, of course. From the makers of the popular Micro Machines series comes this top-down racer where eight tiny mutants–scaled down to 1/360 of normal size–footrace though 32 unique tracks set in various indoor and outdoor locales. To win, you must attack, outrun, and push your competitors, while avoiding such perils as giant dust bunnies and razor-sharp blades of grass. Play as one of the eight main characters or find one of the four bonus characters inside. The game features three play modes: challenge, time trial, and multiplayer, where up to eight, with a separately sold multitap accessory and extra controllers, can join in the fun. Any game that pits up to eight simultaneous contestants against each other without the hassle of split-screening is a party in a box. Micro Maniacs does so, but, with such attacks as plasma punch and fireball fart at one’s disposal, it’s more like a riot in a box.
