Choosing a Difficulty

Shadow of the Tomb Raider offers four difficulties when beginning a new game — Smart and Resourceful (Easy); Rite of Passage (Normal); One with the Jungle (Hard); Deadly Obsession (Very Hard).

Common Resources

Numerous common resources litter the jungles, villages, tombs, and temples that you visit. Hardwood, feathers, medicine, focus plants, fat, perception plants, black powder, cloth, and hides can be used to heal Lara, plant ammunition, upgrade weapons, and more. These items are found in various forms.

New Equipment: Climbing Axes

Finally, the climbing axes are in your inventory, opening up many new abilities and opportunities. Dislodge gold and jade, bust through weak walls and pry barriers, and climb craggy surfaces. Together with the rappel wire, the Grapple Axe allows you to rappel and grab on to a climbable surface, mental hook, or vine by throwing the axe.
